Date: Wednesday, April 21, 2010

Time: 4:00 p.m.

Location: Irish Cultural Center, 1106 N Central Ave, Downtown Phoenix

On December 2, 2009, a meeting was held to discuss the potential future of the Winship House. The meeting was attended by Roosevelt residents, downtown business advocates and developers, city employees from various departments, a representative from the Japanese Friendship Gardens, and others. Special thanks goes to Phoenix Community Alliance, Irish Cultural Center and Butler Housing for their support and participation.

While the renovation of the Winship House was intended to be the main focus of the meeting, the discussion immediately centered on current problems in the park. A number of ideas about uses both of the historic structures on the park, and the park itself were introduced, as well as initial thoughts and concerns on publc, private or non-profit funding.

A consensus emerged that a series of meetings should ensue for the next few months in order to produce a coordinated plan with viable options to present to the Roosevelt neighborhood, the city and the other groups represented.

Please be aware - cat burglars come out in fall weather.

This is about the time of the year when our Cat Burglaries increase dramatically. The typical cat burglar will enter a home to burglarize it when the residents are home. Typically this is the rarest type of burglary.

Unfortunately, during the fall and spring months we see a huge increase in Cat Burglaries. This is because people are opening their windows and arcadia doors and enjoying the beautiful nights. Unfortunately, many people go to bed with their arcadia doors and/or windows still left open or unlocked.

This creates the perfect scenario for opportunistic thieves who know that folks are leaving their windows and doors open and makes for an easy entry into a residence. Everybody wants to enjoy our beautiful evenings, but can you please spread the word to remind folks to please shut and lock all windows and doors prior to retiring for the evening.

Most opportunistic thieves that specialize in this will usually move on once they realize the house is secure. This simple advice can protect residents and their property.
