On December 2, 2009, a meeting was held to discuss the potential future of the Winship House. The meeting was attended by Roosevelt residents, downtown business advocates and developers, city employees from various departments, a representative from the Japanese Friendship Gardens, and others. Special thanks goes to Phoenix Community Alliance, Irish Cultural Center and Butler Housing for their support and participation.
While the renovation of the Winship House was intended to be the main focus of the meeting, the discussion immediately centered on current problems in the park. A number of ideas about uses both of the historic structures on the park, and the park itself were introduced, as well as initial thoughts and concerns on publc, private or non-profit funding.
A consensus emerged that a series of meetings should ensue for the next few months in order to produce a coordinated plan with viable options to present to the Roosevelt neighborhood, the city and the other groups represented.
